This workshop is proposed to focus on the evolving needs of the European Union towards a more efficient delivery of ICT-facilitated public services for citizens and businesses across the EU. The target is to widen the scope of use of the electronic means that public administrations have at their disposal outside the local, regional or national level. A further aim is to facilitate mobility of businesses and citizens i.e. for entrepreneurs to set up and run a business anywhere in Europe and allowing individuals to study, work, reside, receive health care and retire anywhere in the European Union.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights>
        <dc:type>Event</dc:type>

The Austrian Institute for European Law and Policy – which for several years already has focussed on issues like direct and participatory democracy, in particular, the European Citizens‘ Initiative – is now organising, from this fall to spring 2012, a series of workshops regarding "dialogue" within the context of Article 11 (2) European Union Treaty (TEU; Lisbon version), aiming at discussing
 the new elements and the added value of this provision
 how this "vertical dialogue" could be rendered feasible and meaningful.
We think that now, nearly two years after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty (1.12.2009) and after requests to the European Commission several times (both by the European Parliament and by the European Economic and Social Committee) to deliver a "Greenbook" which could structure the procedure of this vertical dialogue, it is most definitely time to get more concrete on this new tool of participatory (or deliberative?) democracy.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights>
        <dc:type>Event</dc:type>

Can ICT create a higher level of consciousness about the state of the environment, and about the role that local individual actions can play in the global society, at the level of lifestyles or democratic participation? During this dialogue, the role of online platforms for collective awareness and action will be explored. Platforms based on the connecting power of online social networks and on the knowledge coming from collective co-production, combined with the Internet of Things. This one-day dialogue, part of the Paradiso international conference, aims to contribute to identifying related multidisciplinary research priorities for the last Call of FP7 and for FP8. COMPSAC, the IEEE Signature Conference on Computer Software and Applications, is a unique forum to bring together all facets of computed world and their major stakeholders. Building on computationally smart environments, and trustworthy, secure, and dependable distributed software—themes of highly successful recent COMPSAC conferences—the technical theme for the 35th conference is The Computed World: Software Beyond the Digital Society.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights>
        <dc:type>Event</dc:type>
